
UK Private Pilots Licence
Holding a Private PIlot's Licence allows you to fly light aircraft for pleasure and personal business use. This is also the first licence required to start the journey of becoming a commerical pilot. Below is a breakdown of the requirements for this course.
Pre-Course Requirements
Age
The minimum age to start training towards the licence is 14. The minimum age for first solo is 16 and to hold the licence is 17. There is no upper age limit.
Medical
To hold a Private Pilot's Licence and fly solo you must hold a Class 2 medical. The class 2 medical is issued by a CAA authorised Medical Examiner.
Time
The course can be tailored to your schedule and budget. We offer lessons Monday-Friday at the following times: 0900, 1100, 1300 and 1500.
Flying
To obtain the licence you must complete a minimum of 45 hours flight training. This must include a mixture of dual flight with an instructor and a minimum 10 hours of supervised solo flying time. As part of the training a solo cross-country flight of at least 150nm must be completed and must include landings at two aerodromes.
Theoretical
As part of the licence, you will have to complete 9 theoretical exams. These exams cover a wide spectrum of subjects including Air Law, Meteorology, Human Performance, Aircraft Knowledge, Principles of Flight and Navigation. We can sit these exams in house and provide school on each subject.​
